The Affable Christ*

John 20: 19-23

Ever Ready to Certify

. . . Peace be unto you. 20And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. 21Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you:—verse 19d- 21a

Ever Ready to Sanctify

Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. — verse 21

Ever Ready to Qualify

And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: 23Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. — verse 22, 23

Jesus’ Adulates Wisdom

And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this
poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:44For

had, even all her living. — Verses 43-44

Life Saving Encounter

An Encounter with Oneself

  • Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?—John4:12
  • The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.—John 4:15
  • The woman answered and said, I have no husband.—John 4:17
  • Our fathers worshiped in this mountain—John 4:20

An Encounter with God

  • “Those who drink of the water that I will give them they will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life”—John 4: 14
  • The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”—John 4: 25-26
  • The woman then left her water pot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.—John 4:28-30

Defeating the Devil

Build Your Firm Fortification

  • The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.—James 5:16
  • . . . but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. 43“Go and look toward the sea,” he told his servant. And he went up and looked.  “There is nothing there,” he said. Seven times Elijah said, “Go back.” 44The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.”— 1 Kings 18:42-44

Grant Jesus Full Authorization

  • And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.”—Luke 10:17
  • “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the Devil.”— 1 John 3:8
  • Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. — Eph. 3:20, 21
