Possession of Power

Acts 3:1-10

Be Mindful of Your POWER

  • But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—walk!“—Acts 3:6
  • then let this be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.—Acts 4:10

Be Eager to Deliver the POWER

  • And he took him by the right hand, and lifted himup: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. — Acts 3:7
  • sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.—2 Cor. 6:10

Life’s True Foundation

Life’s True Foundation

The Work of Christ

  • For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ—1 Cor. 3:11
  • For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it isthe gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.—Ephesians 2:8-9
  • For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.—Romans 6:23

The Work of Faith

  • But let each man be careful how he builds upon it.—1 Cor. 3:10
  • “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something he sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.”— John 5:19

The Work of Grace

  • According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I laid a foundation—1 Cor. 3:10
  • “So then, you will know them by their fruits. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’”—Matt 7:20-23
  • “For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries.”—Hebrews 10:26-27
  • For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is19For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want.  20But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.—Romans 7:18-20
  • “By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”—1 John 2:3-4

Powerful Prayer

FOUNDED ON KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’s WILL

  • ‘Then it will be when seventy years are completed I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation,’ declares the LORD, ‘for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans; and I will make it an everlasting desolation.—Jeremiah 25:12

ROOTED FROM THE CHARACTER AND ATTRIBUTES OF GOD

  • Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and loving kindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments—v 4
  • “Righteousness belongs to You, O Lord. . .“To the Lord our God belong compassion and forgiveness—v 7, 9

EMPTIED THE SUPPLIANT OF SELF

  • but to us open shame,  as it is this day—to the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, those who are nearby and those who are far away in all the countries to which You have driven them, because of their unfaithful deeds which they have committed against You.—v 7
  • “Open shame belongs to us, O Lord, to our kings, our princes and our fathers, because we have sinned against You . . . for we have rebelled against Him; nor have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His teachings which He set before us through His servants the prophets.— 8, 9, 10

ASSOCIATED THE SUPPLIANT WITH OTHERS

  • we have sinned, we have been wicked. . . for because of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become a reproach to all those around us.—v 16

PLEADED IN HUMBLEST ENTREATING

  • So now, our God, listen to the prayer of Your servant and to his supplications, and for Your sake, O Lord, let Your face shine on Your desolate sanctuary.—v17
  • “O my God, incline Your ear and hear! Open Your eyes and see our desolation’s and the city which is called by Your name; for we are not presenting our supplications before You on account of any merits of our own, but on account of Your great compassion. “O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and take action! For Your own sake, O my God, do not delay, because Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”—vv17-19
